The Kansas City Chiefs have a rival stand-up for their star tight end Travis Kelce. The Chiefs have a few rivals, but that's what happens when you win so many games and become the villain of the NFL.
It doesn't get talked about much, but one of their rivals is the San Francisco 49ers, the team they beat in the Super Bowl in 2019. There was a lot of trash talk and great football played.
But, there are friendships between the two at the same time. George Kittle and Travis Kelce are very good friends and hosted the third annual Tight End University this past week. During the camp, Kittle actually stood up for Kelce.
"Well, he led the, you know, he led tight ends in YAC (Yards After Catch) last year. So I don't think it's possible to say that he [runs soft]. No, I don't think he runs soft," Kittle said when asked if Kelce runs soft. "No, there are times and places where you can run out of bounds or stay in bounds, and sometimes he decides to go out of bounds, but like he's 32, 33 [years old], and maybe that's just what's best for him. And the Chiefs is to not pick up two more yards and to play the next play. So you agree, he's making a lot of business decisions while running. Look, Travis literally led the league in YAC, so he's fantastic."
I guess fellow tight ends have to stand up for each other.
These are the two best in the league at their position. Kittle respects what Kelce has done so far and knows that he is one of the best of all time. The thing is, Kelce would do the same thing.
Kelce "running soft" is something I don't think anyone has ever said. If Kittle, the second-best tight end in the league and another great route runner, thinks he doesn't, that settles it.
