Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker said earlier this offseason that UT players play with a chip on their shoulder.

"We play with a chip on our shoulder at Tennessee," said Hooker at the draft combine. "We get a lot of disrespect. So we want to make it clear that we want to come out and dominate day in and day out."

Hooker is moving on to the NFL after two spectacular seasons at Tennessee.

His best friend and former roommate, Joe Milton, is set to take over as the Vols' starting quarterback in 2023.

I don't know if Milton shares Hooker's feelings on Tennessee receiving disrespect. But if he does, then he received plenty of motivation this week.

ESPN ranked the top 10 quarterbacks in college football and they didn't include Milton.

The Florida native received just two votes which means he was essentially ranked at No. 19 (ESPN had 12 writers vote).

Milton obviously has a lot to prove — he's only started four games at Tennessee (he's 3-1 in those games and he left the one loss, against Pittsburgh in 2021, after suffering an injury).

But there's no doubt that he has the physical skills to be a superstar in the SEC. And considering he's yet to throw an interception in a Tennessee uniform, he should probably be receiving more love from ESPN (especially considering the love they give former Kentucky quarterback Will Levis because of his strong arm and ideal height/weight).

Milton would be wise to play with a chip on his shoulder like Hooker mentioned.

Talented quarterbacks are dangerous. Talented quarterbacks playing with a chip on their shoulder, however, can be lethal.

Milton has everything he needs to be the best quarterback in the nation in 2023. He just has to go out there and execute.
