New Seattle Seahawk Dre'Mont Jones felt 'disrespected' by his former team
Dre’Mont Jones didn’t mince words regarding how his former team made him feel.
The Seattle Seahawks have wanted Dre'Mont Jones for a while.
Specifically, the organization wanted Jones back in 2022, when they were pushing to trade former starting quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos.
Jones was never added to the Wilson deal, and it is something the pass rusher never forgot. So during free agency, Jones signed with the Seahawks as a free agent, reshaping a Seattle defense that was in desperate need of a revamp.
It may have taken a year, but Jones has touched down in the Pacific North West. And since arriving, his only wish is that he could have been here a full year earlier.
"They should have just traded me from the jump,” Jones said of the Broncos while speaking with reporters. "I was included in the trade. Denver said no. And then, Denver kind of … I don’t want to say that word. But Denver didn’t pay me my proper respects. So, I’m here, because they respected me from the jump."
Jones can trace his roots in the NFL back to 2019 when he was a third-round pick. He played his first four seasons in Denver before his rookie contract expired and both the Broncos and Jones felt like it was best to part ways.
So, though Jones felt disrespected, he responded in the only way he knew how: He signed a three-year, $51 million deal with the Seahawks as one of the top defensive ends on the market.
Four seasons in Denver produced 22 sacks, 38 quarterback hits, and 133 total tackles.
The link to Jones and Seattle was confirmed in March when Seahawks' general manager confirmed it when speaking to the media.
“We talked about a bunch of guys, and he was one of them," Schneider said. … "They were not willing to part with him."
How one season can seemingly change everything.
Jones may have left Denver because he felt disrespected, but as they say: One man's trash is another man's treasure. In Seattle, Jones will be a featured player in a defense that has a lot at stake in 2023.
