Dre'Mont Jones ready to 'put people on notice' in his first season with Seattle Seahawks
Dre’Mont Jones is silencing the doubters, and he wants to put the league on notice.
Defensive lineman Dre'Mont Jones wanted to play for the Seattle Seahawks a year ago.
He was a name involved in the Russell Wilson trade, but Seahawks general manager John Schneider said the Denver Broncos were unwilling to part with him then. So, the Seahawks waited until free agency to bring in Jones on a three-year $51.53 million deal, $30 million guaranteed.
It is a deal Jones is happy found mutual footing. On Monday, he bemoaned the Broncos for disrespecting him. But on that same day, Jones promised the NFL and the Seahawks that, if it proves true, will be a scary sight for opposing offenses this season. Jones vowed, to put everyone on notice.
"I've always get, like, overshadowed and overlooked … in something, you know what I'm saying?" Jones said. "I feel like I do a lot more than can be seen by the eyes of the inexperienced scout, and I do a lot of dynamic, different things that help make plays for others. I'm definitely an active player. I'm always doing something, whether it's in the run or pass game.
"I think that goes unnoticed sometimes. And I'm looking forward to putting people on notice."
Jones, 26, is the jewel of Seattle's free agency period.
He fits what Seattle head coach Pete Carroll wants out of his defensive lineman. He is a penetrating force who can blow the game up in the backfield while also making life difficult on opposing quarterbacks who are always concerned about him shooting the gap and getting a sack.
Somehow, it looks like Jones is an individual tailor-made for Seattle's defense. And it is apparent that the organization and Jones are happy they found each other. As for his former team, Jones didn't have the same reverence or respect. He's focused on Seattle now, and to him, he should have been with the team sooner.
"I mean, s—, they should have just traded me from the jump," Jones said of the Broncos. "I was included in the (Wilson) trade. Denver said no. And then, Denver kind of … I don't want to say that word — but Denver didn't pay me my proper respects.
"So, I'm here, because (the Seahawks) respected me from the jump."
