The 2023 NFL Draft is just weeks away, and the Indianapolis Colts are eager to finally make their selection. All signs continue to point to Chris Ballard and Shane Steichen landing their quarterback in the top-five.

Sitting behind the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans – two teams that also need a quarterback – could make things tricky. Especially with the Texans being a division rival. Fortunately, there are four different signal callers that are generating top-10 hype.

The overwhelming consensus is that the first two picks will be Bryce Young and CJ Stroud. However, that might not actually be the case. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter is not fully convinced that the Texans will draft a quarterback at No. 2 overall.

Schefter believes that Young will be the first player off the board to the Panthers at No. 1 overall. Then, that's when things could get interesting. Houston could take Stroud, the top defensive player on their board, or even trade out of the pick.

"There's a lot of conflicting signals and information out there about what Houston is going to do at 2," Schefter said. "And I think people have assumed that it's just going to be a quarterback. I'm just not convinced just yet that that's going to be the case."

In such a scenario, especially if Houston opts to stay put and select Alabama pass rusher Will Anderson or Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter, Stroud, Anthony Richardson, and Will Levis will still be on the board after the first two picks.

That would be almost a dream scenario for the Colts. Because then, they wouldn't necessarily have to trade and then would therefore have at least two signal callers to choose from at No. 4.

"All I'm saying is that I don't think that it's a lock that Houston is going quarterback at 2. That's all I'm saying," Schefter said.

The 2023 draft is inching closer and closer, but that hasn't stopped the rumor mill at all. There will surely be more reports, rumors, and speculation between now and the start of the draft on April 27.

Indianapolis is certainly hoping that such a scenario plays out, though. The more quarterback prospects on the board, the better for the Colts when making their pick.
