Well, apparently there is a way that this offseason could get worse for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

While the team has done very well in the free agent market and has been able to keep talent at several important areas, the loss of players like Tom Brady and other critical starters is going to be hard to overcome.

Wasting picks in the 2023 NFL Draft isn't going to help much.

As it stands, the Buccaneers would get better as a team if they use their first round pick on basically any positions but linebacker, running back, and special teams.

Sadly, Bucs GM Jason Licht isn't shutting down one of these options/

When asked about the possibility of ruling a running back out at 19, Licht had the following to say:

Everyone knows who Licht is talking about. There is only one such prospect at the position that should go in the first; Bijan Robinson. And no, Robinson would do very little to help the Bucs in 2023.

The quality of player at the position hasn't been the issue for the Bucs in the past. The true failures in the run game have been due to one of the worst schemes in the league, and that should already be on the mend with a new offensive coordinator.

Assuming Dave Canales does his job, the need for a running back like Robinson to overcome the system evaporates.

Even if the system is still lacking for the run game, running backs simply don't move the needle in the modern game as they did in the past.

More often than not, first-round running backs tend to be expensive backs above all else, and expensive backs are the kiss of death for teams that want to compete.

Perhaps Jason Licht is just playing mind games with the other teams here, but it is still somewhat perplexing that this team would consider making such a bad move with a pick that could prove very important for both short and long-term success.
