Jalen Hurts inks mega-deal with a no-trade clause, a first in franchise history
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is now the highest paid player in NFL history.
The Philadelphia Eagles turned speculation into reality Monday morning when the organization signed quarterback Jalen Hurts to a historic contract extension following his breakout campaign in 2022.
According to multiple sources around the NFL, Hurts and the Eagles have agreed to a five-year, $255 million contract that will keep him in Philadelphia through the 2028 season. The deal includes $179.304 million in guarantees and a no-trade clause, a first in Eagles franchise history.
In terms of total salary, Hurts will be the highest-paid player in NFL history. And then in terms of guaranteed money, Hurts is only behind Deshaun Watson's contract with the Cleveland Browns.
Also involved in Hurts' record-setting deal is that it is the largest contract ever negotiated by a female agent in professional sports history.
At just 24, Hurts took a massive step forward in the 2022 season. He helped guide the Eagles to a 14-3 record and a Super Bowl appearance. It was reported for weeks that the Eagles would extend Hurts. And just a few weeks later, the organization and Hurts found common ground on a deal that will shift the landscape of quarterback contracts in the NFL.
