Nick Caserio spoke with the media on Monday for the first time since rumors about his job status surfaced last week.
Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk was among those reporting that there are whispers in league circles about Caserio leaving Houston for New England after the 2023 NFL Draft.
Naturally, the rumors were a hot topic at Caserio's Monday presser.
Caserio, for his part, vehemently denied having any intentions of leaving Houston.
I'm embarrassed I have to say anything … But I'm not leaving," explained the GM.
Caserio expanded further:
And then, you know, before we take any questions, quite frankly, I'm almost embarrassed that I have to say anything. And honestly, I feel like Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street but: I'm not leaving. There's never really been any substantive discussions of the sort.
We understood when we when we arrived when we got here. There was a lot of work to be done. And I think when you look across the NFL landscape, there's work to be done in every organization. And I think we've made some progress or we still have a lot of work in front of us.
That quote certainly sounds like a guy who plans on staying put. If you reference a legendary movie scene like that, you must be serious.
Caserio also briefly mentioned first-year head coach DeMeco Ryans.
"Certainly, it's been a joy to work with DeMeco in concert as we build the team and build the staff," said Caserio.
And just in case you weren't convinced by Caserio's opening statement, he made sure to circle back and address the rumors.
"But you can tell I'm honestly, I'm almost embarrassed that I have to say anything but I feel like I have an obligation to make that statement," explained Caserio. "Really try to stay ahead of it. I really don't think there's anything else to talk about or say or question about it."
That should solve that.
Caserio should now focus on the draft, as the Texans have an opportunity to select a new face of the franchise.
