The Buffalo Bills and Brandon Beane are being methodical with their offseason plans.

Just a few weeks ago, the team was in a tough situation with limited cap space and some big-name players becoming potential free agents. A few key restructures, re-signings and roster decisions put Brandon Beane and company in a much better situation.

However, the departure of Tremaine Edmunds left a gaping hole on the roster. Buffalo needs a starting-caliber linebacker as well as depth at the position since Edmunds' departure. It appears that Beane has made the first step in fixing those roster needs.

Brandon Beane and the Bills came to an agreement to bring back veteran linebacker A.J. Klein on a one-year deal. Klein is an excellent depth piece and a capable replacement in case a starter were to go down. That, and he's invaluable on special teams.

What's more, Klein has played for McDermott for seven years. The veteran linebacker spent time with McDermott in Carolina before reuniting in Buffalo a few years ago.

With the free agency pool getting smaller and smaller each day, Brandon Beane may look to the draft to find a starter to replace Edmunds.

Brandon Beane, in the past, has discussed how valuable Klein is on the roster as an insurance option. Speaking on Klein's abilities, Beane didn't hold back, “You know, he’s stepped in for us before. Continuing on, Beane elaborated "…see if he can help us out from a depth standpoint.” These comments were made last year but still hold true today. The organization clearly views him as an important depth piece and insurance option on an extremely talented defense.

Let's see what other moves Brandon Beane has up his sleeve to pair with the All-Pro Matt Milano.
