The Chicago Bears are expected to continue a new tradition which general manager Ryan Poles began in his first season on the job.
Ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft, Poles brought QB Justin Fields into the film room to watch the tape of some of Chicago’s target prospects. It helped Fields gain an idea of what he might have to work with and gave him a head start before working with any eventual draftees.
Fields is in Chicago as the Bears’ offseason workout program kicked off on Monday. Poles has previously stated that he anticipates to bring Fields in to watch this year’s crop of prospects.
Fields already has a rapport with a couple of first-round talents in Ohio State’s Paris Johnson Jr. and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. After his first season as the full-time starter, Fields has a better idea of which player can better help his offense.
Poles doesn’t need Fields to do any of the valuating as he already has a team that has been hard at work since the season’s end. But familiarizing the Bears quarterback with players who could play a significant role in 2023 could pay dividend in the acclimation process.
