Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers told the country a month ago that he wants to play for the New York Jets in 2023.

But since Rodgers' declaration on The Pat McAfee Show on March 15, there's been very little movement on a potential deal between Green Bay and New York.

With the 2023 NFL Draft coming up next week, one of the unofficial "deadlines" for the deal to get done is quickly approaching.

If the Packers are going to benefit from trading Rodgers this season, they'll need to complete a deal with the Jets before the 2023 NFL Draft (or at least before any picks they might want are made). Green Bay doesn't appear to be interested in a full "rebuild", so the assumption is that they want a few 2023 draft picks included in a deal for Rodgers

For now, it doesn't appear that Green Bay is in a hurry to get a deal done. Perhaps they're letting their pettiness show a bit. But aside from 2023 draft picks, there's really no motivation for the Packers to hurry up and get the deal done. Whereas the Jets would like to get this done so they can officially introduce Rodgers to fans and begin promoting him as the franchise's quarterback.

So when will a deal get done? NFL Network's Ian Rapoport thinks it will happen before the draft. Rapoport gave his take on the looming trade during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday.

“It doesn’t even sound like there’s been much conversation,” said Rapoport. ”…At the last minute it can get done, it’ll probably get done, so I would imagine that’s next week.”

Despite the fact that the Packers have all the leverage in this situation, it sounds like the deal will get done before the end of the month. And that's what's best for everyone. It allows the Packers to fully plan for the 2023 season with Jordan Love under center. It will also allow Green Bay to build a better plan for the draft (with whichever picks they land).

Rodgers is still technically a Green Bay Packer, but it won't be long before he trades his uniform and his helmet for a different shade of green. It's going to be a strange sight for Packers fans, but fans have had more than enough time at this point to prepare for the official ending of the Aaron Rodgers era in Green Bay.
