The Dallas Cowboys will get an impactful player in the first round of next week's NFL draft. However, the position at which they'll do so is what everyone is wondering about.
Thanks to some savvy offseason trades and re-signings, the Cowboys can pretty much pull a position out of a hat as to what they want to do. Well, a respected draft analyst dropped a big nugget recently.
ESPN's Todd McShay made an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show on Monday. It's no secret that the Cowboys want to get another big-time runner to go with Tony Pollard. McShay said that the Cowboys moving up to get a certain Lone Star State baller wouldn't surprise him.
"I still hold this out. Dallas is obsessed with getting a running back that can be their guy, be a complement to Tony Pollard like they had with Zeke when Zeke was closer to his prime," McShay said.
"Mike McCarthy was dying for a big power back like that, wants to run the football, they want to be a run-based team, and they would love to bring the Texas star into Dallas and make him the star of their offense. So, Dallas is sitting at 26, it wouldn't shock me if they made a splash, jumped up into the teens ahead of teams like Detroit and the Chargers, and went and got Bijan [Robinson] maybe around like 14, 15, 16."
This would blow the doors off of AT&T Stadium for sure.
Robinson was a star for the Longhorns during his three years there. He ran for 3,410 yards and 33 touchdowns which was highlighted by 1,580 and 18 scores last season and led to Robinson being named first-team All-Big 12, a Unanimous All-American, and the winner of the Doak Walker Award.
Robinson isn't a one-trick pony either as he added 60 receptions for 805 yards and eight touchdowns for Texas as well.
Teams in this day and age shy away from running backs in the first round seeing as they can get great value and production later in the draft and at a cheaper price. However, Robinson is a rare breed, and if you can snag him and get at minimum four or five elite seasons' worth of play, you do it.
The Cowboys certainly have a ton of different ways they can go with their first pick. If Robinson is their flavor, what McShay brought to the table makes a lot of sense.
