The Kansas City Chiefs are going to try and defend their Super Bowl title in 2023, as they won their second one in four years, starting what could be a dynasty.
But, to some teams, they got lucky. Obviously, there is a holding call that you can argue with anyone about. If you ask Chiefs fans it was a hold and it should have been called. If you ask just about anyone else, it was a hold and it shouldn't have been called.
But there is also the fact that people don't think the Chiefs played the second-best team. The Philadelphia Eagles beat a San Francisco 49ers team that was hobbled and honesty hit with some bad luck. In some fans' minds, the Chiefs didn't get to play the 49ers, who many thought were the best team.
Heck, even one 49ers player thinks they would have beat the Chiefs in the Super Bowl had they played each other. George Kittle said that on the Bussin with the Boys podcast, and he 100% meant it.
"Like I said, I never have any doubt in my head going into a football game," said Kittle. "So, yes, 100%. I think we would have been the Chiefs.'
I would just like to remind him about the time the Chiefs actually beat the 49ers in the Super Bowl. He had his chance but instead, they choked away a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter.
But that was before. These are two totally different teams now. They aren't the same as when they played in 2019. But, they are the same team as when the Chiefs beat them 44-23 in Week 7.
The Chiefs absolutely dominated the 49ers, and that was with Mecole Hardman scoring three touchdowns. Sure, the 49ers were a very good team, and in fact, one of the best in the league. But, let's be honest. Losing by 21 to the Chiefs at home isn't a good look if you want to say that you would have beat them in the Super Bowl.
Plus, you have to make it to the Super Bowl to beat them.
