The Dallas Cowboys are looking into another veteran wide receiver weeks after trading for Brandin Cooks. With the first waves of free agency in the rearview mirror, the team is doing its due diligence at the position.
According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Cowboys worked out wide receiver Laquon Treadwell on Friday.
Treadwell, a first-round pick in 2016, hasn't had the career he hoped for when he declared for the NFL Draft after a great career at OIe Miss. A former five-star recruit out of high school, he left the Rebels as the all-time leader in career receptions.
But since then, he's become a journeyman of the league. He's been a part of six different organizations, most recently with the Seattle Seahawks in 2022. He caught six passes for 42 yards last year.
Treadwell's career-high came in 2021 when he caught 33 passes for 434 yards.
The veteran will be 28 years old when next season starts and if the Cowboys end up signing him after working him out in person, they'd likely be aiming for him to be a backup.
As of today, the Cowboys have a starting wide receiver trio made up of CeeDee Lamb, Brandin Cooks, and Michael Gallup. Young, unproven players make up most of the team's depth chart at WR. That includes last year's rookies Jalen Tolbert and Dennis Houston. The latter even made the team as an undrafted free agent last year.
Working out Treadwell certainly raises an eyebrow as it's tough to envision where he could fit in on the Cowboys' plans. It's worth noting that Bobby Belt from 105.3 The Fan clarified that Treadwell was included in the team's "Dallas Day" workout made for area draft prospects.
