After having Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker fly out to meet them on Monday, the Saints are hosting Houston quarterback Clayton Tune for a visit as well on Wednesday.
Tune was a backup to D'Eriq King as a freshman in 2018. The same was true a season later, but Tune took over as the starter after King decided to sit out. He threw for 2,328 yards with 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in the 12 games he played in during his first two seasons at Houston.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Houston only played eight games in 2020. Tune racked up 2,048 yards and 15 touchdowns with 10 interceptions.
The final two years with the Cougars were highly productive for Tune. He threw for 3,544 yards with 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions completing 68.3% of his passes in 2021 and was named the MVP of the Birmingham Bowl.
As a senior, Tune was even better with 4,074 yards while producing 40 touchdowns to just 10 interceptions completing 67.3% of his throws. Tune was named first-team All-AAC and won the Offensive MVP award for the Independence Bowl.
If the Saints are fortunate enough to snag Hooker, Tune would be an intriguing Day 3 pick to groom for a few years and eventually become to starter if he develops.
