As we approach the 2023 NFL Draft, rumors about the Texans and the No. 2 pick continue to swirl. It has been reported by reputable sources that the Texans are not guaranteed to take a quarterback with the second pick.
Bryce Young is now a heavy betting favorite to go No. 1 to the Carolina Panthers. This would likely mean CJ Stroud goes No. 2 to the Houston Texans on paper. However, rumors continue to suggest that general manager Nick Caserio and head coach DeMeco Ryans may not be in love with Stroud.
The idea of Stroud being available and picked over was too much for one analyst to comprehend.
Kyle Brandt of Good Morning Football took to Twitter to declare his strong feelings about Stroud. Brandt declared that he was "incredulous," about the Stroud rumors and went on a rant defending the QB.
"For some reason, the Stroud stock has gone down," said Brandt. "Of all the guys, he's the low-profile, not talked about one."
Brandt continued on, not understanding why Stroud was not an obvious choice at No. 2.
"He's not skinny, he's not short, he doesn't have small hands, he's not unliked by his teammates, he's not unintelligent, there are no red flags," exclaimed Brandt. "What are you doing? Just take the great player."
There are multiple reasons why the Texans might not go for a QB, including having a defensive-minded coach and also holding two first-round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. The 2024 QB class is expected to be more top-heavy, with Caleb Williams and Drake Maye both highly thought of.
Another possibility is that all of these rumors are a smokescreen. Perhaps Caserio and Ryans are hoping teams will offer a king's ransom to trade up with Houston. Either way, we'll know in less than a week.
