Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel has fully embraced everything about Rocky Top.

Heupel has made it clear that he loves the traditions and the history of the program. And that's not just lip service to satisfy fans. Heupel's putting his money where his mouth is when it comes to learning about Tennessee's history.

"Last year during training camp, we did a history lesson once every four days with the team," said Heupel last week during an appearance on 104.5 The Zone's 3HL. "It was pretty cool, man. I learned a lot. That was my summer reading right there."

Heupel genuinely loves being a Volunteer. And he has a massive appreciation for Tennessee fans.

"[Fans are] a huge part of the tradition of Tennessee football," said Heupel last week during the Big Orange Caravan stop in Knoxville. "The energy that surrounds our program right now, a huge part of that is our fan base. Very thankful that we have them on our side. They provide a great home game advantage, but they bring it 365 days out of the year, too."

When asked what he'd say to fans in a letter, Heupel made sure to thank fans for believing in him and his staff when they first arrived in Knoxville a little over two years ago.

"Vol Nation thank you for investing in our program [and] believing in us we first started this endeavor together when I first got here," said Heupel. "You provided an opportunity for our players to gain confidence. Appreciate the love and support that you show every day."

There's no doubt that the fans mean a lot to Heupel. So much so, in fact, that Heupel considers Tennessee fans a big part of the reason why the Vols have been able to find so much success during his first two seasons on Rocky Top.
