The Green Bay Packers have agreed to a deal that sends Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets for a passel of draft picks (the deal isn't official yet, but the terms have been agreed upon).

With Rodgers heading to The Big Apple, it means that Jordan Love will finally get his chance to start at quarterback for the Packers.

Love was selected by Green Bay with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Love's path to starting in Green Bay mirrors Rodgers' path to starting for the Packers. Both quarterbacks sat behind future Hall of Famers for three seasons before eventually getting a chance to start. It worked out pretty well for Rodgers and the Packers.

Green Bay is obviously hoping to repeat that success with Love, but it remains to be seen how effective he'll be as a starting quarterback. Love has seen limited action during his first three years in the NFL. He certainly hasn't put enough on film to suggest he's a star or a bust.

Not everyone, however, shares that opinion of Love. Former five-time Pro Bowl defensive back Richard Sherman made it clear this week that he doesn't respect Love's game. Sherman said on his podcast that no one will fear the Packers with Love under center.

"I guarantee you every NFC North team is excited to see Jordan Love," said Sherman. "I guarantee it Green Bay Packers — nobody will fear you moving forward."

Maybe Sherman is right, but I doubt that's the case. This is the NFL. And I seriously doubt any NFL franchise is taking another NFL franchise lightly.

As for Love, well he should have a blank slate. Nothing he did as Rodgers' backup should influence how folks feel about him moving forward. He'll be a completely different quarterback now that the Packers are his team.

Takes like Sherman's usually end up looking terrible in retrospect. Green Bay is certainly hoping that will be the case with his show of disrespect for Love this week.
