At the edge of the water, one wide receiver prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft would make the most sense for the New York Giants. As you dive in deeper, though, TCU WR Quentin Johnston actually isn't the best receiver for New York in the first round.

Why? You may be asking. Johnston provides a unique profile at wideout that the Giants don't really possess on the depth chart. He has size and athletic ability that few other prospects possess.

That being said, his flaws could be major issues at the NFL level. They are what make him closer to a second or third-round receiver in this draft class. At 6'3" and 208 pounds, he has WR1 size at the professional level. Isaiah Hodgins is the lone WR for NYG that has that stature.

That being said, Johnston struggles to use his size to his advantage. Actually, his contested catch ability and release are a couple of his biggest downfalls. In simpler terms, he doesn't use his size effectively.

Johnston's best attributes are actually after the catch where he does possess some impressive twitch and shiftiness for a receiver of his size. Johnston's route running and route tree are also somewhat concerning. At TCU, they didn't have him run a plethora of routes. The lack of deception in those routes is also underwhelming compared to other first-round wideouts.

Not to mention, Johnston's best projection comes with an NFL QB with elite downfield accuracy. Daniel Jones made strides for the Giants last season, but that attribute isn't a strength of his so far. Other first-round WRs like Zay Flowers or Jordan Addison may make more sense for New York in round one if they choose to go that route.

It would make sense for the Giants to add another WR with size to their room during the draft. They should go elsewhere in the first round, though.
