For the second-straight year, the Cincinnati Bengals opt to go back-to-back defensive players in the NFL Draft, and a cornerback in the second round as they select DJ Turner with the 60th overall pick.

Turner came away with 20 passes defensed and three interceptions for the Wolverines in the last two years as a starter. He also posted the fastest 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine at 4.26 seconds.

He did all of this despite weighing under 180 pounds and having very little length in his frame, but what Turner excels at makes him an intriguing second-round pick.

Here's what A to Z Sports' Tyler Browning had to say in his scouting report of Turner:

Very patient in his back pedal, careful not to open his hips too early. Gains the necessary burst to undercut a throw while in trail. Is able to get on top of the receiver and dictate the tempo he plays at. Powerful hands in press, packs a punch. Capable of traveling. Spends his time in the film room, you can see him jumping routes breaking points before they happen. Very physical in press, likes to exert his force and let the receiver know that he is there. Communicates with other defenders well, handles stack releases with ease.

And here's The Athletic's Dane Brugler overall synopsis of the newest Bengal:

Overall, Turner's limited length and play strength are amplified versus bigger targets, but he is smart, explosive, and competitive and should continue to ascend in coverage. He doesn't back down and shows the movement ability to and toughness desired at nickel in the NFL.

Both Browning and Brugler had Turner rated as top-45 players in this year's class.

While he doesn't have a clear role right now in the starting lineup, Cincinnati has consistently relied on depth at the position in the last two years. If Turner can put on weight within the next year, he'll be an asset for the Bengals' secondary as they look towards the future.
