The Texans have been one of the most exciting teams to watch during the 2023 NFL Draft. After selecting CJ Stroud at No. 2, the team traded back into the top five, selecting star edge Will Anderson Jr. at No. 3.
Due to the Anderson trade, the Texans entered Friday night without a second round pick. We mentioned earlier today that Nick Caserio was not ruling out trading back into the second round.
Well, the GM did just that. The Texans traded No. 65, No. 188, and No. 230 to the Eagles for No. 62.
The Texans traded up for Juice Scruggs, an interior offensive lineman from Penn State. Scruggs has experience at both guard spots and center, but center seems his most likely position in Houston.
Scruggs and his new QB CJ Stroud were rivals in college, but will have to be best friends in the NFL. Scruggs stands at 6'3", 301 pounds, and is sneakily athletic for his size. Scruggs had the second-highest Relative Athletic Score among centers in the 2023 class.
Scruggs should immediately challenge Scott Quessenberry to be the new starting center in 2023. The former Nittany Lion has the upside to be a quality center or guard in the league. His versatility and athleticism will be much-valued in Houston.
