The No. 68 pick of the 2023 NFL Draft could end up being the most impactful of any pick made for the Detroit Lions.

After adding a dynamic running back in Jahmyr Gibbs in round one, and then sturdy tight end Sam LaPorta in round two. In round three, the Lions finally addressed the quarterback position, going with Hendon Hooker out of Tennessee.

Hooker led one of the most dynamic offenses in college football at Tennessee, and was rumored to be a late first-round pick.

Hooker has great size, standing at 6'4", weighing 218 pounds. Even with that size, Hooker is surprisingly mobile. The speedy QB collected five rushing touchdowns in 2022 to go along with 27 passing TDs and only two interceptions.

While Jared Goff will likely remain the starter in 2023, the Lions now have a quality option behind him. Hooker and Goff are actually quite similar, being the same height and Goff being about five pounds heavier. Hooker has more mobility and a stronger arm, but Goff is sturdy in the pocket and goes through his progressions smoothly.

This is great value for the third round. Some mock drafts had Hooker going in the late first round or early second round. Hooker was the fifth QB selected, behind Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, Anthony Richardson, and Will Levis.
