The New Orleans Saints selected TCU running back Kendre Miller with their third-round pick. At the surface, it makes some sense. The Saints need more RB depth, and Alvin Kamara could get suspended due to an off-the-field legal situation during this season. Miller provides competition for Jamaal Williams at the backup running back spot, and he will get reps if Kamara misses time.

On the flip-side, you could argue that running back was not a major need for the Saints. At least, they didn't need to use a third rounder on a backup RB. That pick could have been used on a wide receiver, cornerback, or even some interior offensive line help.

One of those three positions may have provided a bit more immediate impact for New Orleans. Clearly, the Saints loved Miller's skill-set, and that was clear throughout the pre-draft process. it was simply too much to pass up for them.

Aside from a different position, Miller was not the best running back remaining, either. Both Devon Achane and Tyjae Spears were both better prospects, but the Saints passed on them for Miller. You can make the argument that Texas RB Roschon Johnson and ECU RB Keaton Mitchell are both supreme to Miller as prospects, too. They remain on the board going into day three of the draft.

Overall, the Saints went with their guy, and that should come as no surprise. They may regret passing on a handful of the other talented players that were still on the board in the future, though.
