The Texans continued to make moves on Friday after a very busy Thursday. The team entered Friday without a second-round pick, but that would not last.
GM Nick Caserio traded three picks to move up three spots into the second round to select interior offensive lineman Juice Scruggs. Next, just seven picks later, the team grabbed speedy receiver Tank Dell.
Dell is a local product, having starred for the Houston Cougars.
Dell was an electric presence for the Cougars, finishing his career with 228 catches for 3,155 yards in three seasons. Dell's 228 career catches are good for fourth-most in Cougar history.
Dell was undoubtedly a key factor in the Cougars becoming competitive again after a few poor years. After being selected by the Texans, Dell said he wants to return the Texans to their winning ways as well.
In 2019, the season before Dell arrived in Houston, the Cougars went 4-8. In Dell's freshman season, 2020, the Cougars went 3-5 in the covid-shortened season.
In 2021, Dell broke out with 90 catches for 1,329 yards. The Cougars ended that season with a 12-2 record and a Birmingham Bowl win. The team took a slight step back in 2022, finishing 8-5. If the team took a step back, Dell certainly didn't.
Dell collected 109 catches for 1,398 yards and 17 receiving touchdowns in 2022.
If Dell can provide anything near this level of production, the Texans will be in great shape. Dell joins Noah Brown, Robert Woods, Nico Collins, and John Metchie III in the Houston receiver room.
