With their second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys addressed a position that didn't need the most attention.
With pick 58 in the second round, the Dallas Cowboys selected Michigan tight end Luke Schoonmaker.
Now, you may ask "Why is this an uphill battle? Didn't the Cowboys lose Schultz?"
Yes, yes they did. He faces an uphill battle, due to the Cowboys seeing plenty of production from rookies Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot just last year.
Schoonmaker is a fine player, his best ability is blocking, and he has been deployed in a variety of ways.
He also has some drops to his game, appears a bit stiff on film (although his combine testing suggested differently), and you never truly saw him in a true contested catch situation.
He will also be turning 25 in his rookie season.
He was a fourth-round player on my board, at number 108.
Just the pick after him offensive guard O'Cyrus Torrence went off the board, and we know the Cowboys could use some help along the interior of their offensive line.
One player who Cowboys fans were clamoring for was Oklahoma wide receiver Marvin Mims, and he went five picks later.
Another popular choice among fans was Arkansas edge/linebacker Drew Sanders, who slipped to the fourth pick in the third round.
Quite the reach, but the Cowboys have consistently shown they know what they're doing on draft day and deserve the benefit of the doubt.
