The Detroit Lions had one last need remaining on their defense before the exited the third round. After addressing linebacker and a do-it-all safety, defensive line was the last area of need for this roster.

The depth at the position in the class isn't great, so a reach was probably coming just for the Lions to have the chance to get someone to fill this role.

They ended up settling on Western Kentucky tackle Brodric Martin. For those keeping up with most projections, this is pretty early for Martin, but he should be able to serve his role with the Lions well.

Expect for Martin to likely handle mostly depth opportunities during his first few years as he gets used to the speed of the NFL and potentially develops into a decent starter if his growth goes as planned during the next few years.

This isn't a crazy pick for the Lions like some of their other selections, but this one does address a need and leaves the team in a better place than it was at when it started the round.
