The Texans once again stayed in-state with a draft selection. The team chose TCU defensive end Dylan Horton in the fourth round with the No. 109 overall pick.
Horton figures to be opposite fellow draftee Will Anderson Jr. on the defensive line. The defensive lineman had an extremely productive season in 2022, finishing with 10.5 sacks for the Horned Frogs.
After making a couple of trades before the round started, it seems the Texans got their guy.
Horton spent three seasons with the Horned Frogs after playing at New Mexico for the first two seasons of his college career. With the Horned Frogs, Horton had 15.5 sacks and 29 tackles for loss over three seasons.
When you land a player that's capable of getting double-digit sacks in the fourth round, you have to feel good about that. Horton lasted this long likely due to his smaller size and lack of experience playing on the end.
In his college career, Horton lined up as an outside linebacker and an interior pass rusher, before ending as a traditional defensive end. It seems the prospect will need more fine-tuning with his pass rush moves on the end, but he has the relentless motor that you want at the position.
At under 250 pounds, Horton likely will not play on the interior in the NFL. He does not have much experience dropping back in pass coverage either, so 4-3 defensive end seems to suit him best. Wherever he ends up, Horton adds depth and youth to a Texans' defensive line that struggled in 2022.
