Seahawks opt for two Michigan standouts in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft
Seattle Seahawks opted to go all Michigan in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
With two picks in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks went all Michigan by selecting a defensive end and a center at picks 151 and 154
By selecting defensive end Mike Morris and center Olusegun Oluwatimi, Seattle added depth at two key positions while also bringing in two players that will shape what each position room looks like all throughout training camp.
But what do Morris and Oluwatimi add in terms of talent? Let's take a second and find out.
Morris at Michigan was an effective hands fighter who can cross the offensive tackle's face rushing the passer. He was effective in stopping the run and he has the size coupled with the speed to set the edge and chase down ballcarriers that break through arm tackles.
Oluwatimi transferred from Virginia and spent one season in Ann Arbor, but his impact in anchoring the Joe Moore Award-winning offensive line was as significant as any aspect of Michigan's journey back to the Big Ten Championship and College Football Playoff. Oluwatimi won both the Rimington and Outland Trophy as the top center and interior lineman in the country, after he started 15 games, allowed just nine pressures, and not a single sack. The All-American center was rated the No. 2 center in the nation in 2022, per Pro Football Focus.
Both of these picks make sense from a depth standpoint with Seattle. And both players will have interesting stories to follow come the start of training camp in the late summer.
