The Texans did a remarkable job filling needs during the 2023 NFL Draft. At this time last year, the Texans were looking at potentially having the least-talented roster in the entire league.

It's safe to say that will not be the case in 2023. Multiple starters were added via free agency and the draft. However, that's not to say this is a perfect roster by any means.

Today, I want to take a look at the biggest remaining needs after the draft.

This post will focus on the most glaring areas that still need depth. For instance at the tight end position, the team could be one Dalton Schultz injury away from having a problem.

Behind Schultz, the team currently rosters Teagan Quitoriano and Brevin Jordan. Both tight ends are former fifth-round picks who have not exactly made an impact at the NFL level yet. It is worth mentioning that the team handed a multi-year deal to Andrew Beck, but he is listed as a fullback currently, and does not have a track record of being a receiving threat.

The team chose not to draft a tight end, and so far have not signed an undrafted player at the position. This implies that the team will more or less have this group when the season begins. I would feel much better about the group if Jordan Akins was still around.

After tight end, I believe the secondary could benefit from a veteran addition. Steven Nelson and Desmond King II are another year older, and Stingley needs to play better than he did as a rookie.

Behind that group, Tavierre Thomas has proven his worth as a nickel, but other than him, there's not much depth to speak of.

Finally, the linebacker room could use more reinforcements. Currently, the Texans are relying on two veterans on one-year deals in Cory Littleton and Denzel Perryman. Christian Kirksey is still on the roster for now, but he had a miserable 2022 season.

The team drafted Henry To'oTo'o in the fifth round, but he struggles in pass coverage and looks poised for a special teams role.
