Bobby Wagner 'never felt a type of way' about Seahawks, to wear No. 54 in his return
Bobby Wagner explained why he never felt bad about his departure from Seattle. And in his return, Wagner expects to wear his No. 54 jersey.
When Bobby Wagner was let go by the LA Rams, it didn't take long before the Seattle Seahawks came calling.
Wagner officially agreed to return to Seattle on a one-year deal that both sides hashed out in late March. And on Wednesday, with an appearance on Seattle Sports 710, Wagner explained that he "never felt a type of way" with how things ended in Seattle. It is why he was eager to return.
"It just seemed like the right thing," Wagner said. "Everybody was excited to have me back in the building. But even walking to the store, I can feel that there's a lot of love and support here. I'm grateful for how the fans have re-embraced me."
There was never any love lost with Wagner in Seattle apparently. When everything ended, Wagner admitted that he thought that was the end. He didn't think a return was really in the cards.
“I thought when I left, that was the end,” Wagner told Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk on Wednesday. “You know, if you watched the guys that kind of left before me, there have been some moments when you thought someone was gonna come back, whether it was Richard (Sherman) or K.J. (Wright) or whoever, but it just didn’t happen for whatever reason. So I didn’t think that this was in the cards, but I’m happy it played out this way.”
Upon returning, there were questions regarding what number Wagner would play in. During his first tenure in Seattle, Wagner wore No. 54. For the Rams, he elected to wear No. 45.
In his return to the Seahawks, Wagner said he is planning on wearing No. 54 again. In his mind, it is a journey that has come full circle. And he explained that he expects to return to his old form again while playing this season.
He knows the teammates that recruited him to come back will help him get there.
“I think, if anything, I appreciate all those guys because I think they were another reason why I came back or I was able to come back," he said, "because there was an openness within the building, especially from those guys, to have me back. So I’m grateful."
