The Dallas Cowboys have been linked to wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. since the end of last season. Dallas even went so far as to use linebacker/edge Micah Parsons and cornerback Trevon Diggs to recruit him.
Dallas didn't strike a deal with Beckham due in large part to his inability to work out. However, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was still saying that Beckham was in their plans recently, and it was even reported he was driving the bus to get it done around the time Beckham finally worked out for teams last month.
All the speculation ended on Sunday as Beckham signed a one-year deal worth up to $18 million with the Baltimore Ravens.
The price of Beckham's deal is key here.
There's no doubt that the interest from Jones and the Cowboys when it came to Beckham was real. However, $18 million for a guy that didn't play in 2022, and tore his ACL the last time he did step on a football field would've been too steep for their blood.
Dallas did snag a productive receiver during free agency. They signed veteran Brandin Cooks for the next two seasons and even worked their magic when it came to the in-depth details of his contract.
That's not to say that the Cowboys bringing Beckham on board couldn't have worked, it likely could have. However, the Cowboys simply decided to take care of a big need early and they will add one more receiver in the NFL draft.
Until Beckham was picked up, the link between him and the Cowboys was still floating around, like it usually does with big-name players when it comes to Dallas. Now, all chatter can cease to exist for good.
