Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt is known for his speed.

The South Carolina native routinely blew by defenders during his breakout 2022 campaign, providing plenty of highlight reel moments for the Vols during a memorable 11-2 season.

Hyatt's top-end speed makes him an attractive option for wide receiver-needy teams that have a late first-round pick.

ESPN recently made some NFL comparisons for the top wide receivers in the 2023 NFL Draft and their choice for Hyatt is….strange.

The national sports media outlet compared Hyatt to Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd.

Unfortunately, ESPN didn't give a reason for the comparison so we don't know where their logic lies with this comparison.

What we do know, however, is that Boyd and Hyatt are dramatically different wide receivers.

For starters, Boyd is a bit bigger than Hyatt (Boyd is a couple of inches taller and around 20 lbs heavier).

Secondly, Boyd doesn't come anywhere close to matching Hyatt's speed.

Boyd's 40 time came in at 4.58 seconds — not exactly blazing speed for a wide receiver.

Hyatt, on the other hand, ran a 4.40 in the 40-yard dash despite running on a bum hamstring

Boyd would be a better comparison for Vols wide receiver Cedric Tillman. And that's not exactly a perfect comparison.

Hyatt is more than just a speedy wide receiver. He's smart, plays tougher than you'd expect for his size, has confidence, and consistently catches the ball away from his body (a good habit for wide receivers to have).

There really isn't a great comparison for Hyatt (the comparisons to NFL wide receiver Will Fuller are based on speed alone…otherwise, there aren't a ton of similarities between the two players).

Hyatt will write his own story. And we'll see what that story looks like in the coming years. But I can assure you that it won't look like Tyler Boyd's story. ESPN missed the mark on this one.
