Somehow, someway, the Philadelphia Eagles landed arguably the best player in the NFL Draft, and it cost just a Day 3 pick in 2024.
The rich get richer, inexplicably.
Just mere months after going toe-to-toe with the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, Philadelphia landed Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter with the pick they got from the New Orleans Saints.
Carter, the consensus best non-quarterback in the class, might also be the best overall player entering the NFL this year. He's an incredibly explosive pass rusher who is a nightmare to block in the run game.
While he doesn't boast the best production out of the defensive tackles in this class, the flashes he consistently showed for the best team in the country make him an undeniable force to be reckoned with.
That a player of that caliber is now joining the Eagles' already incredible defensive line is bonkers. They watched Javon Hargrave leave for a gigantic multi-year deal from the San Francisco 49ers, and effectively replaced him with a 22-year old stud.
Not only that, Carter gets to reunite with former teammate Jordan Davis to wreck interior offensive lines once more. Both players can interchange technique spots to keep offensive coordinators guessing.
And if there was any doubt, his future foes aren't happy about him landing with the NFC Champions.
It's almost unfair, but that's how the NFL Draft goes sometimes.
The Eagles were rumored to trade up from 10th overall, and continuously connected to Carter throughout the pre-draft process. They did end up moving up for him, but it cost them next to nothing while they're in a Super Bowl window.
Carter will contribute right away as the Eagles look to run it back to the Super Bowl in an increasingly weak NFC.
