Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Deandre Hopkins hasn't gone full Aaron Rodgers just yet, but he's not far from it.
Hopkins, a player that many expect to be in a different uniform this fall, hasn't gone on national television and told Pat McAfee that he wants to be traded to the Buffalo Bills like Rodgers did when he announced he wanted to be traded to the New York Jets.
But the superstar wide receiver has made it pretty clear, whether that's via conversations with Buffalo edge rusher Von Miller or Hopkins' own words, that he'd like to play for the Bills.
Miller's most reason "subtle" hint that he wants to play for Buffalo came via a conversation with CBS Sports' Dave Richard. During the short interview, Hopkins references the Bills multiple times when asked about his favorite plays from his career.
Hopkins also made it a point to say that he loves "everything" about the Bills' organization.
Hopkins could be traded this offseason, but if the Bills are patient they might be able to grab the dynamic wide receiver after he's released (assuming no one trades for him, which obviously hasn't happened so far this offseason).
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported this week that several NFL teams think Hopkins will be released unless the Cardinals are willing to cover part of his $19.45 million base salary. Fowler noted that Arizona has been unwilling to do that in the past.
From ESPN: Teams that have talked with Arizona about DeAndre Hopkins would like a portion of Hopkins' $19.45 million base salary covered to facilitate a deal, and Arizona has in the past been unwilling to do that. Let's see if the Cardinals relent on that stance. I've talked to several teams that wonder whether Arizona will just end up releasing Hopkins, with the logic that the money required to cover a trade isn't worth the draft pick.
The Hopkins situation could drag out a bit longer, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see the former Clemson star wearing a Bills uniform in 2023.
