It's finally Draft Day which means one thing for the Dallas Cowboys: Whispers are getting very loud about what they will do with the 26th overall pick in the first round. How loud? Well, combine basically every top insider's voice in one big scream: TIGHT END.
Listen, here's the reality of the Draft: You just never know how the board will fall, especially when it comes to a late pick like the one the Cowboys hold tonight. However, five of the most respected NFL Draft insiders have turned in their final mocks and they all have the team grabbing a tight end with two votes for Luke Musgrave (Oregon State), two for Dalton Kincaid (Utah), and one for Michael Mayer (Notre Dame).
And here's the thing that keeps ringing in my head: It's kind of been this way since the league's Scouting Combine. With everyone in the NFL gathered together in Indianapolis, it seems like people came away from that feeling the Cowboys would strongly lean toward drafting a tight end.
The fact that NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah and ESPN's Todd McShay mocked Musgrave speaks volumes about the team's potential intentions. As of April 26th, Grinding the Mocks, a website that uses thousands of mocks to try to predict the NFL Draft in the aggregate didn't have Musgrave pegged as a Top 50 player in expected draft position.
It's almost time for them to turn that card in and while things could go a lot of different ways, the tight end rumors have gotten pretty loud. You can bet that's what they're leaning toward right now.
