On Thursday night, offensive tackle Darnell Wright became the first Tennessee Vols player selected in the top 10 of the draft since Eric Berry was drafted No. 5 overall in 2010 by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Wright was selected by the Chicago Bears with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft (Chicago traded down one spot with the Philadelphia Eagles).

The expectation is that Wright will play right tackle in Chicago, though that starting job will have to be earned by the former Vol during training camp.

Bears general manager Ryan Poles spoke with reporters on Thursday night after taking Wright with the No. 10 overall pick. And Poles gave Wright a massive compliment that should make Tennessee fans smile a bit.

Poles called Wright a "tone-setter" and noted that he "plays with an edge" which is something that Chicago's general manager said the team loves about the former Vols standout.

The Bears were comfortable taking Wright at No. 10 overall in large part because Poles and Chicago offensive line coach Chris Morgan made a trip to Knoxville in early April to put Wright through an intense set of workouts. Poles and Morgan were comfortable with Wright after that workout, which included pushing Wright to the point of exhaustion.

Wright shut down the best edge rushers in the SEC during his time at Tennessee. He more than proved last season that he's a first-round talent and he should be a perfect fit on a Chicago team that plays tough physical football.
