Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is one of five finalists for the 2022 NFL MVP Award.
Burrow joins Jalen Hurts, Justin Jefferson, Patrick Mahomes, and Josh Allen as finalists.
On Tuesday, former Bengals offensive lineman Andrew Whitworth appeared on the NFL Network and he was asked about Burrow and the MVP award.

Whitworth, who like Burrow played college football at LSU (over a decade before Burrow was in Baton Rouge), said he doesn't think the Cincy quarterback should win the award.
Instead, Whitworth thinks Mahomes deserves it this season.
"I think at this point — and there's two LSU guys on that list (Jefferson being the other) so I'm really going against them — I just think, Joe Burrow had an insane year," said Whitworth. "It was a great year for the Cincinnati Bengals. Didn't get to where they wanted to end it obviously. But I think this is Patrick Mahomes' MVP. I mean, it just is."
I'm surprised Whitworth didn't go with Burrow, though I applaud him for his objectivity.
Honestly, either player could win the award and there wouldn't be a ton of complaints. Mahomes has slightly better numbers (5 more total touchdowns and 775 more passing yards in one more game played than Burrow), but both players were equally important to their team's success in 2022. If you take Burrow off the Bengals or Mahomes off the Chiefs, neither team makes the playoffs, let alone reaches the AFC Championship game.
Burrow will almost certainly win an NFL MVP award one day. It just probably won't be this year.
