Andy Reid is one of the greatest coaches of all time, even if he doesn't have the rings to show for it. He does, though, have one thing that elevates his name into elite company, and he was able to achieve that on Saturday with a Kansas City Chiefs win over the Raiders.
With that win, the Chiefs are the number one seed in the playoffs, which is the most valuable thing around this time of year. It's almost like gold or diamonds, because of that extra week off, and a potential host throughout the entire playoffs is legit. That is, unless you are the Chiefs playing the Bills, then it's a neutral site.
This was Reid's sixth time clinching the number one seed, which is where he joins the elite company. The only coach to do that more is Bill Belichick, who has done it seven times, per ESPN Stats on Twitter. Belichick is widely considered the greatest coach to ever coach, so yes, Reid is in elite company.
Reid isn't slowing down anytime soon in terms of his teams' success either. He still has a chance to pass Belichick, as the patriots don't look to be competing for a Super Bowl anytime soon.
Reid has been one of the most consistent coaches in the league since he has been in the league. The Chiefs have not had a losing record with Reid as their head coach, and this is his second 14-win season with them.
If what he has done over the last few years hasn't submitted him as a top-five coach of all time, then I don't know what else he has to do. But, clinching the number one seed for a sixth time is impressive, so it's probably a start.
