Finding adequate weapons for quarterback Justin Fields is a top priority for the Chicago Bears in the 2023 offseason. Chicago has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to salary cap space, but the Bears are making sure to do their due diligence in the scouting process as well.
On Sunday, Daniel Greenberg reported that the Bears are planning to meet with wide receiver prospect Dallas Daniels. After spending two years at Western Illinois, Daniels transferred to Jackson State to play for Deion Sanders.
In late September, Sanders said of Daniels, "He's a pro. I know what it looks like. I've been there, I did it for 14 years on the field. I mean he's an NFL player. Never complains, runs routes, can work the inside, can play the slot, he can play outside. He can get off and can route you up. Ain't scared to block, he's a darn professional."
In his senior season, Daniels posted 61 receptions for 657 receiving yards and six touchdowns. At six-foot-one Daniels isn’t going to blow anybody away with his size, but reliable hands and ability to make contested catches make him a potential late-round fit for Chicago.
Daniels’ ability to make plays after the catch is another aspect of his game that makes him an attractive fit for Fields, who likes dumping the ball off over the middle of the field and letting his pass catchers do the rest.
Drafting Daniels won’t fix the Bears’ talent deficiency at receiver, but it does show that general manger Ryan Poles is willing to turn over every stone in order to solve Chicago’s most glaring weakness.
