The Dallas Cowboys kicked off their 2023 offseason with a number of coaches not being retained. Including parting ways with their Offensive Coordinator. Replacing him with a familiar face of Head Coach Mike McCarthy in Brian Schottenheimer.

A month away from free agency, and two weeks away from the NFL Scouting Combine. Meaning the need to fill the staff is getting intense.

While the Cowboys have their OC, they have yet to find a new QB coach. It's undetermined yet if they will actually fill the role. With McCarthy calling plays, giving Schottenheimer a much more hands-on approach with QB Dak Prescott.

However, another former Cowboys coach has found a new home. With a familiar face waiting for him.

Former Cowboys QB coach Doug Nussmeier is joining the LA Chargers coaching staff under the same position. Reigniting with new OC Kellen Moore. Both of whom coached together for Dallas from 2018-22.

Nussmeier and Moore now get to get a fresh start with one of the league's best young quarterback's in Justin Herbert with a stacked offensive roster. Which includes one of the best young offensive lines in the NFL.

Nussmeier, along with Moore, are both credited with helping Dak to develop as a much more controlled passer. Allowing him to better see the field from the position in pre-snap situations.

With more potential success in 2023 with Herbert, Nussmeier may be looked at as another potential OC candidate in 2024. While he's never called plays at the pro level, he spent 10 seasons as a play caller in college (2008-17) before joining the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff in 2017.

Coaching tight ends for a season before working for four years as QB coach.

The combination of Nussmeier and Mooore is a solid group addition by the Chargers. With the hopes of elevating one of the NFL's best QBs beyond his current state.
