While Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs are busy on the recruiting trail for more talent, the front office of the Dallas Cowboys added to the coaching staff on Thursday.

Former first-round pick Sharrif Floyd has been hired as the Cowboys' assistant defensive line and quality control coach.

Floyd's ties to the Cowboys go back to 2011 and 2012 when he played under Dan Quinn for two seasons (2011-2012) while he was the defensive coordinator and defensive line coach at the University of Florida.

The Cowboys moved on from seven coaches recently including offensive coordinator Kellen Moore who took the same position with the Los Angeles Chargers and Leon Lett who served as Cowboys assistant defensive line coach for 12 seasons (2011-2022).

Dallas decided to pass on Floyd in the 2013 draft and traded back to the 31st pick to take center Travis Frederick who made five Pro Bowls and two All-Pro teams in his seven seasons. Floyd spent five years in the NFL, all with the Minnesota Vikings where he registered 95 tackles and nine and a half sacks in 44 games with 24 starts.

Floyd gets to take his playing experience in the league and apply it to a leadership role as a coach in Dallas.
