The Dallas Cowboys have various needs to fill on the roster this offseason. Some needs will be targeted through the draft, while others will be looked at in free agency.

Among the positions that must be addressed is cornerback. Dallas was short-handed opposite of Trevon Diggs for much of the season. Especially after Anthony Brown went down midseason.

Da'Ron Bland was a bright spot as a rookie, as he played multiple roles in the secondary. Still, the Cowboys could certainly use more talent — and simply bodies — in the back end. Fortunately, the Cowboys have the chance to use free agency for exactly that.

In fact, there is a world where the Dallas Cowboys use free agency to make a reunion happen. An idea that has some risk but also some upside at a position of need.

Former Cowboys' DB could soon be available

There looks to be more and more smoke that former Cowboys cornerback Byron Jones could be made available on the open market soon. That is because the Miami Dolphins have the option to release Jones this offseason.

CBS Sports included Jones as a potential cap casualty this offseason. Below is the explanation from Joel Corry:

"Jones was sidelined for the entire 2022 season after ankle/Achilles surgery last March," Corry wrote. "The Dolphins have not gotten their money's worth out of the five-year, $82.5 million contract Jones signed in 2020 free agency that briefly made him the NFL's highest-paid cornerback."

As Corry pointed out, Jones missed all of last season due to surgery on his ankle and Achilles. That, obviously, is not something you want in aging defensive back. Still, it is worth the Cowboys at least looking into.

It will be interesting to see what Jones will demand on the open market and which teams will be in the mix to add the 30-year-old to the roster. If the money is right, the Cowboys would be wise to strike.

Dallas has a need in the secondary. Jones could soon be looking for a new home. On paper, it certainly makes sense for the reunion to take place.
