Cowboys continue to be linked to top free agent

It's the time of year when tons of free agents are associated with the Dallas Cowboys whether it's realistic or not.
Odell Beckham Jr, who hasn't played an NFL snap since Super LVI when he suffered a torn ACL, but was arguably the best player on the field beforehand, scoring the game's first touchdown. However, since last December, he's been linked to the Cowboys, primarily after he was heavily recruited by the organization, particularly by Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs.
According to Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus last week, that connection lives on, as he has the Cowboys as the best landing spot for Beckham.
"Beckham and the Dallas Cowboys had extensive discussions about him potentially joining the team late in the 2022 season, but, ultimately, nothing came to fruition. Beckham has made it clear he wants to plant roots somewhere for a few years as opposed to reprising his role as a mercenary for the Los Angeles Rams.
"The Dallas Cowboys make a lot of sense as a landing spot — just ask Micah Parsons — with CeeDee Lamb likely not signing his extension until the 2024 offseason. In the meantime, Dallas can have two mid-tier wide receiver contracts with Michael Gallup and Beckham. The Cowboys have to regret recouping just a fifth-round pick for Amari Cooper — and every other team that didn’t beat that price should, as well — but with Beckham they don’t have to break the bank on a game-changing wide receiver when healthy."
As much as the Cowboys wanted to get something done with Beckham months ago, the biggest reason it didn't happen was the uncertainty of his availability. These days, the two-time All-Pro is looking healthy as he continues grinding towards a return to the field in 2023.
Despite not inking a deal with Beckham, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is keeping that door open.
“Again, I’ve gotten to know him well,” said Jones earlier month. “We’ll be talking.”
CeeDee Lamb took the next step the Cowboys needed him to in 2022 with 107 receptions for 1,359 yards and nine touchdowns, notching an All-Pro bid. Outside of him, the Cowboys receiving corp might as well have been a punchline on Def Comedy Jam, because it was a joke, as none of them reached 600 yards in production.
Putting Beckham on the Cowboys' roster gives them a guy that can line up at multiple wide receiver positions much like Lamb and Gallup which can create a lot of matchup problems for opposing defenses.
Beckham will have his fair share of suitors, especially with a clean bill of health. So, Jones will have to put his best recruiting hat on to make it happen.
