The Kansas City Chiefs will be in need of a new offensive coordinator soon, as Eric Bieniemy is heading to Washington. Or, there is a lot of thought they will need a new quarterbacks coach instead, as many believe Matt Nagy, the former Chiefs offensive coordinator, and former bears head coach, will get what used to be Bieniemy's job.
If Nagy does get it there isn't really any need to worry, as he is very qualified. He was in the system as the quarterbacks' coach last season and was the offensive coordinator in 2017.
He took the Chicago Bears to the playoffs as the head coach in 2018 but was fired and returned to Kansas City. It appears he is the favorite to land the job.
Which means his job would likely be open.
If that is what happens, there are several guys that aren't within the Chiefs organization at the moment that I could see being candidates for the quarterbacks' coach job.
Kliff Kingsbury, the former Cardinals head coach, showed that he can work with quarterbacks. Yes, I understand that he and Kyler Murray had a rift at times, but you also have to think about who he coached during his college days. That's right, Patrick Lavon Mahomes.
This is the obvious one because of the connection with Mahomes, but some people wouldn't like this for a few reasons. A lot of people hated Mahomes' mechanics when he left Texas Tech, so, people think maybe Mahomes' mechanics would regress.
Jeff Grimes would be another one. The current offensive coordinator at Baylor university has been waiting for his introduction to professional football. He has run a great offense at Baylor for the last few years, since 2021 to be exact, and would be great as a quarterbacks coach, in my opinion.
Not to mention he has Texas ties, something he and Mahomes could bond over.
Marcus Brady the Eagles' offensive consultant, would likely love an upgrade to a quarterback coach position for the team that just won the Super Bowl, even if they beat his current team.
These are just a few of the guys I could see in the news about the position, barring any other hires, of course.
