The Tennessee Vols made an important addition to their football program on Wednesday.
On3's Matt Zenitz reported that Tennessee is hiring UConn’s Andrew Goodman as their new director of football operations.
Goodman is a former Penn State wide receiver who previously served as a recruiting coordinator for the Nittany Lions. He has also spent time at Brown.
Tennessee's new hire will replace Andrew Warsaw, who left Tennessee to follow former Vols offensive coordinator Alex Golesh to USF (where Golesh is now the head coach). Warsaw took a role as associate athletic director and football chief of staff at USF.
The director of football operations isn't a role you hear much about publicly, but it's an important job nonetheless.
The job duties can vary depending on the program, but typically it includes scheduling, dealing with travel requests, coordinating meals for games, designing recruiting material, and planning/coordinating recruiting visits, among other tasks.
Goodman doesn't appear to have any previous connections to Josh Heupel, but he was at Penn State for a period of time with Vols defensive coordinator Tim Banks. So there's some familiarity there.
It seems like there's always a theme of continuity with Heupel's hires. And so far, that seems to be a smart approach.
