The Dallas Cowboys laid an egg against the Washington Commanders on Sunday, losing 26-6. One of the many aspects of the Cowboys' plan that failed was the running game, only producing 64 yards on 27 attempts (2.4 yards per rush.)
Although they were putrid running the ball in Week 18, and have struggled for a few games, the Cowboys ended the season with a top-10 rushing attack, and Tony Pollard was the lead horse.
Despite the loss, Pollard achieved a significant milestone on Sunday, going over 1,000 yards for the first time in his career.
The idea was to get Pollard more involved in the Cowboys' running game in 2022, and it worked tremendously. His attempts increased by 63 from a season ago. However, he still didn't reach 200 for the year, but somehow averaged over five yards per rush for the third time in four seasons.
Dallas hits the road to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next weekend in the first round of the playoffs. It will be paramount to keep Tom Brady on the sideline as much as possible, and a great way to do that is to get the ball in Pollard's hands as often as possible.
Until then, Pollard should be celebrated for having such a monster year, something that many have felt would happen once he got more opportunities.
