The Miami Dolphins fired defensive coordinator Josh Boyer who had spent the last four seasons in South Beach. Coming off a season in which the defense ranked sixth-worst against both the run and the pass.

Opening the door for a young, up and coming team who made the playoffs. Featuring a number of quality defensive players returning like LB Jerome Baker, DB Jevon Holland and DL Christian Wilkins.

Wasting no time, the Dolphins are already doing their due diligence. Reportedly already looking into filling the position with a big name.

First reported by Josina Anderson, the Dolphins are giving heavy considerations for former Denver Broncos head coach, Vic Fangio, to fill the vacant position.

Fangio most recently was attached to go wherever Sean Payton would potentially end up as his defensive coordinator. Payton's market has seemingly cooled as it is sounding like it will take a first round pick to get him.

Fangio's market, however, is only going to increase. Especially as more and more defensive coordinators are fired, or new head coaches come in and want to use their own staff.

Fangio rose to elite defensive prominence during his four years in San Francisco (2011-14) and four years in Chicago (2015-18). Never having a defense finish worse than 15th, and having five seasons finish in the top five.

As well as winning the 2018 NFL Assistant Coach of the Year award before becoming the head coach in Denver.

The Miami Dolphins are serious about fixing their defensive efficiency and with the talent at their disposal, someone with Fangio's track record could work.

In a conference where they'll play Buffalo twice a year, as well as potentially Kansas City, Baltimore, Cincinnati or Jacksonville, an experienced and revered defensive coordinator is a welcomed addition.
