It was a disappointing Sunday for the Dallas Cowboys offensively. They only managed to score six points, and quarterback Dak Prescott threw his third interception of the season that resulted in a touchdown, while also having the third-worst passer rating of his career (45.8).
Prescott has been intercepted in seven consecutive games, the longest streak by any Cowboys quarter since Vinny Testaverde threw one in nine straight games in 2004. After Sunday's loss, Prescott faced the music of the Cowboys' offensive struggles and took full responsibility.
"Sh—y, not to use the language but it was exactly that," said Prescott, via the team's website. "The defense gave us a chance. We put them in bad positions, us and special teams did. … I think the defense did enough, obviously.
"But, for offense, just completely not who we are. I don't think I've seen us like that, damn sure not in the last two years. It's something that, as much as you want to burn the tape and move forward, there's a lot that we've got to learn from. Use this tape."
Prescott missed five games in 2022 with a fractured thumb. However, Prescott finishes the season tied for the NFL lead with 15 interceptions. If the Cowboys are to have any chance to make a deep playoff run, or even make it past the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round, Prescott has to protect the football better, and he vowed to do just that.
“It stinks. Not having, I’d say, an issue like this with the ball, but for sure having more confidence in where I can put the ball and the things I can do, it’s a fine line," Prescott said. "And I ‘ve got to get better at it. Simple as that. This won’t continue.”
Talk is cheap, so Prescott will have to back up his words when it matters the most. If Prescott isn't on his game when the Cowboys plays the Buccaneers, a promising season will end abruptly.
