Bengals: Zac Taylor could find himself in a position to prove he's a top-tier coach

People around the league love to say the NFL is a copycat league. But it's also a poaching league. Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor is learning that the hard way.
After building what appears to be a Super Bowl contender for years to come alongside QB Joe Burrow, many decision-makers are looking right at the Bengals coaching staff for several openings on their own operations.
While Taylor shouldn't be surprised, the next few days (or weeks) could result in a very significant brain drain for the Bengals. Three very important coaches have second interviews scheduled for jobs representing a promotion for each of them.
If they end up getting the respective jobs they're interviewing for, it would set up the biggest season of Taylor's career. The best coaches in the NFL (like Andy Reid, Bill Belichick, Kyle Shanahan, etc.) prove year to year that they can continue to groom coaches on a consistent basis.
Taylor has had two great seasons over the past couple of years and owns an impressive 5-2 playoff record that includes two AFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl appearance.
But he could finally prove he belongs in the very top tier of NFL coaches if he succeeds even in the midst of what could be an exodus of coaches.
Let's break down the coaches the Bengals could lose as the dominoes keep falling in the NFL.
Bengals DC Lou Anarumo
Second interview for Arizona Cardinals HC opening
Anarumo is one of three finalists for the job alongside Steelers LB coach Brian Flores and Giants OC Mike Kafka. Although Kafka fits the bill as an offensive-minded young coach, there's no denying Anarumo and Flores are proven leaders and defensive masterminds.
The Bengals defense would suffer a big blow by losing Anarumo as he's done a fantastic job against elite quarterbacks for two years now. And it's not like Cincy has the same caliber of talent that units like the 49ers' do.
Bengals OC Brian Callahan
Second interview for Indianapolis Colts HC opening
Callahan finds himself in a tighter and more open race with six other candidates, going by the number of second interviews that have been reported out of Indianapolis.
There are bigger names than Callahan's on the list of candidates like Giants DC Wink Martindale. But out of the seven finalists for the job, Callahan is one of two offensive coordinators (not counting Jeff Saturday). He could certainly get the job if Jim Irsay opts to follow the NFL trend.
Bengals QB coach Dan Pitcher
Second interview for Tampa Bay Buccaneers OC opening
According to Mike Garafolo, Pitcher is scheduled for a second interview (the first one happened over Zoom) with the Bucs. Pitcher has worked closely with Joe Burrow as QB coach since Joey got to the league in 2020.
Pitcher has been with the Bengals staff since 2016 and would be an underrated loss if he ends up getting hired away.
