The Pittsburgh Steelers, despite their 28-14 win against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, were eliminated from the playoffs thanks to the Miami Dolphins' win against the New York Jets.

If there's a silver lining to the season coming to an end, it's that the end of the Matt Canada era should be near.

Maybe.

The beleaguered offensive coordinator has been a source of frustration for Steelers fans all season.

Canada's refusal to adapt/evolve his offense was a big reason why Pittsburgh had the No. 29 scoring offense in the NFL this season.

Last season, Canada's first as the Steelers' offensive coordinator, Pittsburgh had the No. 21 scoring offense in the league.

It's safe to say that Canada probably isn't going to suddenly become a coveted NFL offensive coordinator based on the last two seasons. And the Steelers would be wise to quickly cut him loose and find someone who can help the offense reach its potential.

The only problem is that it appears one of the Steelers' most important players wants the team to keep Canada.

Star running back Najee Harris said after the game on Sunday that the team believes in Canada

"I can't control none of that, so I'm not really gonna answer that … but we all believe in Canada," said Harris after the game (via ESPN's Brooke Pryor). "Everybody's saying he called the same plays, but everybody calls the same plays. You can look at everybody everywhere. Everybody calls the same plays."

"All that play-calling stuff, I think that's just a coverup for just the lack of stuff that we were doing on the field as players," added Harris. "I never bought into none of that… cause I know at the end of the day, we're the ones who gotta make the plays."

You've got to respect Harris for not blaming some of the Steelers' struggles this season on Canada and the play-calling. But I don't see how Harris can endorse Canada returning in 2023 after watching so much talent get wasted this season.

Pittsburgh has something special in the Kenny Pickett/George Pickens connection. Throw Harris into the mix and that's an elite three-headed monster. And then with the Steelers defense, which wasn't completely healthy this season, there's a chance this team could make some noise next season.

But they're going to need a better offensive play caller if that's going to happen. I wouldn't normally advocate for a front office or a head coach to go against the wishes of players, but this is a situation where they probably should.
